Lines To Love
Betsy Johnson Fall 2012 RTW New York Fashion Week Style.com
It has been said that lines on garments are a dangerous endeavor, depending on how they are laid out on the body. But it looks like these designers managed to pull it off in more ways then one and learned to love lines. Their collections feature vertical, horizontal and diagonal lines on the body and they all manage to flatter the model wearing them. Vertical lines give the illusion that body is taller then it is and sometimes slimmer. Diagonal lines can also make the body look slimmer. Horizontal lines however can do the exact opposite and make the body appear larger. The pieces in these collects have managed to balance out the direction with the weight of the lines. This is helping to defy the illusions.
Lines always appearing on the runway in many directions and curves but not every designer can pull of the right illusion. Alice+Olivia and Betsy Johnson have achieved the look of balancing out the look of lines so the wearer does not look to tall, or too slim nor look like they packed on pounds when they put the garment on. The lines in these garments are shown not only in different directions but also different materials such as velvet, sequins and nylon. They are not just simple stripes or lines these designers made sure to capture themselves in their designs.
